Large Pergola Partially Supported by Masonry Wall

This project was a bit of an odd one. Our client had an existing pergola-type of structure covering his patio and holding up a wisteria bush, but it wasn’t in good shape. To make matters interesting, one side of the pergola was supported by concrete masonry pillars on top of a short retaining wall. So, we incorporated the masonry pillars into the design of the pergola and spaced things out such that they replaced the posts on one side. The details on this got a little complicated but nothing too bad.
