Heavy Timber Roofed Patio Cover Over Deck in Washington State

We designed this roofed patio cover in Washington to extend over an existing deck, overlapping the home’s roofline for continuous rain protection. The design intentionally overlaps the top of the existing roof, ensuring the space stays dry even during heavy weather, a must for the Pacific Northwest climate. The structure was built over the homeowner’s existing deck, transforming it into a year-round outdoor living area that feels both open and protected.

Taking our engineered design as a starting point, the homeowner decided to “beef it up” with a more timber-framed aesthetic, adding extra presence and craftsmanship to the final build. The project passed inspection without issue and stands as a great example of thoughtful design paired with DIY execution. The result is a functional and visually striking patio cover that enhances both the home’s comfort and its character.
