Roofed Patio Cover in Arizona

The Arizona sun gets HOT. To help mitigate this issue, and to provide a comfortable seating area in the client’s newly built back yard, he wanted a covered space with the feel of a pergola. Due to his homeowner association requirements, the roof needed to be concrete tile to match the rest of the house (similar to the other patio cover we designed for a client in the Sacramento Valley).

Thankfully, even though the roof tiles weigh a lot more than the typical pergola roof lattice, the overall dimensions are such that large beams and rafters were not necessary. The member sizes could be kept relatively smaller and to scale with the rest of the structure, so the end result is still nicely proportionate.
