Curtained Pergola in Florida
This client in Florida has a patio that faces a common alleyway, which is greatly lacking in privacy. He approached us about designing a pergola so that he and his family could enjoy their hot tub in privacy.
Deck-Attached Pergola in Maryland
Our client in Maryland had a beautiful deck built in his back yard, and decided he wanted a nice shaded space over the sitting area. This project was a bit different than our “typical” pergola projects, in that the pergola was entirely supported by the deck structure and didn’t have its own footings.
Roofed Patio Cover in Arizona
The Arizona sun gets HOT. To help mitigate this issue, and to provide a comfortable seating area in the client’s newly built back yard, he wanted a covered space with the feel of a pergola. Due to his homeowner association requirements, the roof needed to be concrete tile to match the rest of the house (similar to the other patio cover we designed for a client in the Sacramento Valley).
Patio Cover in Sacramento Valley
The original concept was that this pergola would be both an outdoor space and a covered spot to mark a boat, so the clearance of the pergola was set at 11’-6”. A monosloped pergola with a standing seam steel roof was the first design, but this was met with disapproval from his wife (it happens!). So, a gable-roof patio cover was chosen to match the style of the house.
Solar Panel Pergola in Massachusetts
This was a first for us - a pergola specifically designed to support solar panels! The overall dimensions of the pergola are 12ft wide by 44ft long, for a total solar collection area of just over 500 sq. ft and 8.1 kW of power!
Privacy Pergola in Colorado
Our client in Colorado has a back yard in a bit of a fish bowl. To maintain some privacy, they requested a pergola with walls on two sides, and sliding doors for easy access. This pergola also has beams positioned on the top to provide for installation of sliding shades, keeping the owner out of the hot sun.
Roofed Pergola in New Jersey
For this project, our client has some big plans for his back yard, eventually turning the patio space into a great area for entertaining. We’re talking outdoor kitchen, dining area, the works. He wanted a 16ft x 18ft pergola with a polycarbonate roof, so that the patio can still be used in less-than-ideal weather.
Roofed Pergola in Texas
To stay cool in the hot Texas sun, this client wanted a roofed pergola tall enough to house a couple ceiling fans underneath. After the polycarbonate roof gets added, this should be the perfect place to relax in the summer.
Patio Cover in Chicagland
After building a beautiful new garage, our client wanted to add a patio cover over the new concrete patio on the outside. Unlike a lot of our designs, this one will attach to the building structure, which is a bit more complicated than a freestanding pergola.
Sloped Roof Pergola Outside Washington D.C.
To provide cover for a future hot tub, the clients requested that we design a sloped roof pergola that could support a polycarbonate roof. Not a problem!
Heavy Timber Pergola in California
For this pergola, our client wanted it made from heavy redwood timbers with hidden fasteners for a more substantial look and feel.
Large Pergola Partially Supported by Masonry Wall
This design was a little atypical for us. The client had an existing masonry retaining wall on one side of the patio that he wanted incorporated into the design. So, we used the existing masonry pillars to replace three of the posts, and voilà!
Giant Multi-Tiered Pergola in Alabama
With a huge back yard, might as well add a huge pergola to better use the outdoor space! This client has grand ideas for his back yard, starting with this huge, multi-tiered pergola. At 17ft wide by 50ft long, this is the largest pergola we’ve designed to date. The client requested that we design his pergola to minimize cuts on lumber for making joints, so we made extensive use of decorative hardware to tie everything together. The result is striking, and an instant classic.
Double-Bay Pergola in Tennessee
Our client loved the look of “The Classic” pergola, but wanted something a little bigger to suit his large patio space. We were happy to oblige! Given the 12ft x 35ft dimensions the client wanted for his pergola, a more typical four-post pergola wasn’t going to cut it. We designed him a six-post pergola in the traditional stylings offered by “The Classic,” just on a longer scale. Pressure treated southern pine is readily available in the client’s area, so that’s what he used to build it.
Kentucky Horse Farm Custom Pergola
Our first custom pergola design project was this large, L-shaped pergola to wrap around the corner of the client’s house, providing a wonderful space for hanging out, barbecuing, and watching the sunset. The corner made this one tricky to lay out since the span direction of the rafters had to change when wrapping around the corners, but nothing insurmountable.
